UEFA Europa Conference League Final: Goals galore as Fiorentina lift the trophy

Olympiacos Piraeus 18 Fiorentina 25

Italian side Fiorentina have won the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League after a thrilling 25-18 victory over Olympiacos Piraeus in the final in Athens.

The match was a high-scoring affair, with both teams trading blows throughout. Fiorentina took an early lead, but Olympiacos fought back to level the scores at 10-10 at half-time. The second half was just as entertaining, with Fiorentina eventually running out winners by a seven-goal margin.

Fiorentina's victory is their first European trophy since they won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1961. It is also the first time that an Italian team has won the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Olympiacos will be disappointed to have lost in the final, but they can take heart from their performance in the competition. They were the only Greek team to reach the knockout stages, and they pushed Fiorentina all the way in the final.

The UEFA Europa Conference League is a new competition for the 2021-22 season. It is the third-tier European club competition, below the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The competition is open to teams from all UEFA member associations, and the winners qualify for the UEFA Europa League the following season.

The final was played at the OPAP Arena in Athens, Greece. The stadium was built for the 2004 Olympic Games, and it has a capacity of over 50,000.

The match was broadcast live on Eurosport. It was also available to stream online on the UEFA website.
